Many
ceiling tiles are problematic due to indoor air quality problems
caused by low level formaldehyde off-gasing. Additionally, when
wet many of these materials support the growth of molds which
can have adverse effects on indoor airquality.
A
number of alternatives are widely used in Europe and are rapidly
gaining popularity in America.

fiber, perlite, and clay. Ceiling tiles have up to 79% post-industrial
recycled materials. Armstrong also operates a ceiling tile reclamation
program turning old tiles into new ones.
