Wood & Plaster

Benefits of wood include the fact that it has a low embodied energy and is a renewable resource. Unfortunately due to over harvesting, poor forestry practices, and the use of endangered wood species, the use of wood can be harmful to the environment. Use of many-interior grade plywood and particle board can significantly degrade indoor air quality due to the off-gasing of chemicals, including formaldehyde.

When using wood Environmental Building News (EBN) recommends using certified or salvaged wood products, avoiding products with formaldehyde, using engineered wood products, and avoiding plastic surfacing materials.
