Green Urbanism
Thursday, June 13, 2002
Cleveland City Hall Rotunda
601 Lakeside Avenue
5:30 PM ? 7:00 PM
Reception to follow
Around the world cities are integrating sustainable design practices
to increase quality of life for current and future residents while
improving economies and competitiveness. Join in a discussion
of what we can and are doing in Northeast Ohio.
Northeast Ohio can pursue development and business enterprises
to create jobs, attract new businesses, retain our young leaders
and improve our quality of life. Cities around the world have
set a precedent in accomplishing these goals.
Come learn how innovative European and North American cities
are making themselves competitive and livable from Professor
Tim Beatley, author of Green Urbanism: Lessons from European
Cities.
Also join in a discussion with Clevelands 55th Mayor
Jane Campbell to learn about the new administrations
goals and priorities, and show your support for Green Urbanism.
Jane
Campbell

career building neighborhoods and communities. She was the founding
Executive Director of WomenSpace, the Executive Director of the
Friends of Shaker Square and National Field Director of ERAmerica.
Jane began her public career in the Ohio House of Representatives.
She spent 12 years in the legislature, where she rose to prominence
with her effective work on behalf of children, families and seniors.
As Cuyahoga County Commissioner, Jane was a member of the Executive
Committee of the Large Urban County Caucus and represented the
County as a board member of the County Commissioners Association
of Ohio (CCAO).
Timothy
Beatley
Professor Beatley's primary teaching and research interests are
in environmental planning and policy. His most recent research
and writing has been focused on the subject of sustainable communities,
and creative strategies by which cities and towns can fundamentally
reduce their ecological footprints, while at the same time becoming
more livable and equitable places. His book The Ecology of
Place reviews innovative local sustainability practice from
around the country and provides practical guidance on creating
more sustainable urban form, restorative local economies, and
stronger communities. Professor Beatley has also spent much time
researching innovative urban sustainability programs and initiatives
in North America, which he details in Green Urbanism: Lessons
from European Cities.
