Cleveland pioneered the first industrial revolution. What will it take for the city to lead the nation into the next industrial era?
Please join the Cleveland Green Building Coalition in welcoming David Goldstein, a 2002 MacArthur Fellow, as we kick off our 2003 Speakers Series. Mr. Goldstein will discuss a national movement toward creating incentives for energy efficiency, and will outline strategies that Northeast Ohio could engage in to utilize our existing manufacturing base to become the country's leading region for energy efficiency.

About David Goldstein
David Goldstein is a Cleveland native who was named a MacArthur Fellow (a.k.a. the "Genius Award)" in 2002. He started his career at the Natural Resources Defense Council by developing energy efficiency standards for household appliances. His approach spurred the development of more efficient products, as well as creating markets for those products. Craig Noble states in the Winter 2003 issue of OnEarth Magazine, "(Goldstein's) work on energy efficiency standards for appliances is saving as much energy every year as the entire output of the U.S. nuclear energy program." Since then Goldstein has expanded his work to include both building efficiency and location efficiency.
David Goldstein received an A.B. (1973) and a Ph.D. (1978) from the University of California, Berkeley. Since 1980, he has co-directed the Energy Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in San Francisco. Goldstein is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, and he won the Leo Szilard Award for Physics in the Public Interest in 1998. In addition to his work at the NRDC, Goldstein serves on the boards of the Consortium for Energy Efficiency, the Institute for Market Transformation, the New Buildings Institute, the Appliance Standards Awareness Project, and the Institute for Location Efficiency.
